UCWBG Members' Lunch at the Midway Club-Confidence Code Discussion
Tuesday, August 19, 2014, 12:00 PM until 1:15 PM
Khloe U Karova
Professional Development event
Attendees pay for their own lunch.
Last Thursday's discussion on women and self-confidence left us wanting to talk about it more. So this month's members' lunch will continue the conversation over lunch at the Midway Club. Kristan Rowland will take the lead.
Again, we'll use The Confidence Code by journalists Katty Kay and Claire Shipman as a springboard. In their book Kay and Shipman explore the nature of women and confidence. Is confidence genetic or are there things one can do to improve confidence? Why do so many women, even the most successful, struggle with feelings of self-doubt? The authors travel to the frontiers of neuroscience on a hunt for the confidence gene and reveal surprising new research on its roots in our brains. They visit psychologists who explain how we can all chose to be more confident. They interview women leaders in sports, politics, the military and the arts. They examine the impact of a lack of confidence on our leadership, success, and fulfillment.
Come prepared to discuss The Confidence Code and what we can learn from it. Take this opportunity to network with other like-minded women, discuss interesting new research and socialize.
As part of your preparation take the short Confidence Quiz the authors have prepared. How self-assured are you? Whet your appetite for this event with this video of the authors' interview with Charlie Rose. An article in The Atlantic may also interest you.
